32 Things About Me

It was around this time last year that I started brainstorming about a new blog. At the time I had a one year old, and we anticipated having a second in the near future. Keeping my wine-only blog up and running was a challenge, and I knew it wasn’t going to get better if I was pregnant.

I decided on Jules of All Trades. Not in an arrogant way, but to recognize that each person has a unique background with so many things to offer. I wanted to start a blog that encompassed many aspects of my life, to include my new journey in motherhood. I don’t know that I classify myself as a lifestyle blog, mainly because I’ve never really thought of myself as having a lifestyle. But I have incorporated cooking, entertaining, and local activities in addition to motherhood. So I compiled a list to get to know me a better. As I recently turned 32, I thought that number would be a good place to start.

  1. I first started blogging about wine, specifically from Virginia. I did this as a way to document my visits, because I’ve been to over 150 Virginia wineries. The picture was taken by my friend Brooke during my wine blogging days.
  2. In high school I did drama club, yearbook, lacrosse, student government, and a year of marching band.
  3. I’m known for my Resting Bitch Face. You have no idea how often I’ve said “it’s just my face” when people ask what’s wrong. My mom gave me a magnet for my birthday that says “You Should See My Active Bitch Face.”
  4. Commercials about animals or children do nothing to me, but the military gets me every time. Don’t even look at me when someone plays a medley of each branch’s song.
  5. I met my husband when we were both 18 and we’ve been together since.
  6. I often throw Spanish words or phrases into conversation, but I stopped taking it in high school. My mom and sister are far better than me.
  7. I’m ultra paranoid about food safety and sanitation.
  8. I will write something on my to do list I’ve already completed just so I can mark it off .
  9. I did Irish dance for about 5 years. Yes, like the Riverdance stuff.
  10. I strained a tendon during lacrosse, but I’ve never broken a bone.
  11. I love putting together events and seeing the final results. Most of my work was weddings, but I also enjoy hosting gatherings at home.
  12. In contrast to the event planning, I’m naturally an introvert and am exhausted by crowds.
  13. My dad taught me to shoot.
  14. I love the idea of owning my own winery, but then my husband reminds me that I don’t even like pulling weeds.
  15. I’ve lived in 3 states, and found it weird when I met people whom had lived in the same house up until high school.
  16. People may think I’m cold-hearted, but I just tend to be blunt and pragmatic.
  17. I feel like I’ve missed key elements of being a girl. I know virtually nothing about makeup, hair, or beauty products in general. I would love to do more, but at this point it just seems like a lot of work.
  18. One thing I do require though is lotion. I put lotion on my whole body after the shower. I thought everyone did this, but apparently not. I also don’t use any special lotion for my face. I’m wondering if I need to start doing this given the increasing birthdays.
  19. I don’t mind sitting in silence with someone.
  20. I was never one of those women who would go crazy over babies and want to hold them, but love being a mom.
  21. I grew up United Methodist, but now attend a non-denominational church.
  22. The first (and only) time I had fake nails was for my wedding. They were too long to take out my contacts and my friend/bridesmaid had to file them down. (See #17)
  23. I love cooking but get tired of coming up with new meal ideas.
  24. I have a freakishly good long-term memory.
  25. I did Tae Kwon Do when I was a kid. Yeah, I could break some boards back in the day.
  26. I tend to ask very direct and pointed questions.
  27. I had two cats growing up.
  28. I have Celiac Disease.
  29. I have great teeth, and never had to have braces or a retainer. My eyesight is a different story.
  30. I have one older sister. When we were younger people asked if we were twins, and later people thought I was the oldest.
  31. I got a double major in college. This was because 1) my parents and sister had double minors so I thought I’d exceed that and 2) there were enough overlapping classes that I could still complete it in four years.
  32. I’m terrible at unpacking bags after a trip, and I’ve only recently started getting slightly better.

What are 32 things that make you unique?
